Professor Simon Innes

Harvard University

Simon Innes, Assistant Professor of Celtic Languages and Literatures, has taught at Harvard since 2010. His research focuses on the cultural history and literatures of medieval and early modern Scotland and Ireland, with particular reference to religious expression in Gaelic.

His most recent work examines the religious poetry from the early sixteenth-century Book of the Dean of Lismore. He is passionate about the teaching of modern Scottish Gaelic (GĂ idhlig) and modern Irish (Gaeilge) languages. He also teaches courses on Gaelic folklore, the history of Gaelic Scotland and Ireland, Celtic Christianity and modern Gaelic literature.

In Scotland he has taught at the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde. In Canada he has taught at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. Prof. Innes has graduate degrees from the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde.
