The Gathering 2009
In July of 2009, Scotland welcomed home her far flung sons and daughters for a grand clan gathering in Edinburgh's Holyrood Park. Not since Sir Walter Scott organized the famed Highland Review of 1822 to welcome King George IV, has Scotland seen such a panoply of Chiefs, tartans and Highlanders and Lowlanders alike.
The highlight for many was the Grand March up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle. To commemorate the march and the Clan Currie tartan (created in 1822 for the Highland Review), the Clan Currie Society commissioned a new pipe march, "The Currie Tartan." Composed by world champion solo piper, Captain Stuart Samson, the tune was first performed on the march up the Royal Mile along with the Clan's signature tune, "The MacMhuirich's March."
